Life changing may be pushing it too far, but of those books I’ve read that are on the list I’d agree that they are excellent choices. Certainly a good starting point for people who are looking for new scifi to read.

It’s site, similar to LibraryThing et al, where you can share which books you’ve read/bought with others. Of course it’s got all sorts of social Web2.0 goodness like tagging and building a friends list. One handy feature is that it can import data from Delicious Library (and others) so that you don’t have to build a collection from scratch using this service, if you’ve already started cataloging with other software.

You can check out my Shelfari profile here. I imported a few from Delicious Library and added some I could think of just off the top of my head. Once I get a new Mac with a built-in camera I want to go to town with DL, which can scan the barcodes and lookup using the camera, and get my collection logged and online.

This post has been sitting in my drafts for a while now because I wanted to say something about each show. But they really share the same criteria that made ‘em Top 5 material: Excellent writing, fantastic performances and interesting characters. Saying that over and over again would just be repetitive.

The reasons Doctor Who is in the honorable mentions and not Top 5: It’s been… 6 months?… since the season ended so the memory has dimmed a bit. Also, I really liked Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor. His run only lasted this one season so I’m not sure if this new guy will measure up. Other than those reason, this latest incarnation of Doctor Who is easily Top 5 calibre.

Produced by Ben Folds, Shatner’s spoken-word poetry is the beat to which a plethora of guest musicians dance. Well, maybe there were dancing. I think the music was the primary goal.

    So, pick up the album. I bought a couple tracks off iTunes (“Common People” and “I Can’t Get Behind That”, guests Joe Jackson and Henry Rollins respectively) and ended up shelling for the whole CD. Liner notes make for an interesting read as well.

    Oh, and if you enjoy the Shatnerian whimsy I recommend adding Boston Legal to your Tivo. His character, Denny Crane, is just one of the many interesting characters that make up the ensemble.

    Picked up ??Echoes?? last night after hearing some tracks on XM and iTMS. The tracks range across a variety of genres, blending some dance/techno beats, funk, and 60’s-style Brit-rock (the Kinks come to mind.) I recommend it. Some very catchy tunes.

    It’s like Jackie Chan meets The Matrix, with maybe some Jurassic Park thrown in for fun. Even a short dance routine–this movie has it all! The DVD comes with two version, the American and original Chinese. Not sure what the diff is; I checked out the American version first.

Great stuff! The art is top notch and Joss brings his usual wit to the story. A couple panels had me laughing out loud, which is rare when I read a comic book (er, how comic can it be then? Hmmmm…).

    So, if you’re a fan of Firefly/Angel/Buffy/other_Joss_stuff and like comics, X-titles in particular, go out right now and get a copy. I think he’s locked in to write the title for a year. Cyclops, Wolverine, The Beast, Shadowcat and Emma Frost make up the core X-team in this book. It’s been a while since I’ve read any Marvelverse comics so I’ll need to scour the net and get up to speed on the story line.
